A career in the gas industry offers outstanding job prospects

A career in gas is exciting, flexible, fulfilling and well paid. The average starting salary for a gas engineer is £25,000, rising to in-excess of £40,000 with experience. Business owners often attract even higher salaries.

Which course is right for me?

Once qualified you can work for yourself or join a team and because there’s a shortage of gas engineers in the UK, you’ll find yourself in high demand.

Barrett Bell gave me the confidence I needed to become a self-employed gas engineer. I would 100% recommend it as a career. You get a lot of job satisfaction from helping people. You also get to enjoy the freedom of working for yourself, and not having a boss. And there’s always more work that you can handle.

I’ve always felt very supported at Barrett Bell, while I was learning and since I’ve moved on. Their whole ethos is about getting people into work… and it’s true.

I did this course with my partner. We have four kids and have never been able to earn enough to live comfortably. Before we even finished the course we both got jobs making £40,000 a year. We’ve found something we both love that sets up our family for life.

I've had three customers in to sign today who are on the Barrett-Bell course and all three of them were raving about it. They all said there was a huge amount of information being thrown at them, but they are really enjoying it. All three of them thanked me for putting them forward for the course.

Q&A: The student experience

What was going in your life that led you to Barrett Bell?

I'd just left the army and didn't know what to do. My mum suggested gas plumbing, so I thought why not?

What's life like for you now?

I qualified in April 2017, applied for a job with EON, had an interview in May and started work in June. I went from not a great pay cheque to a very good pay cheque. From struggling each month, to being comfortable and now saving to buy my first house.

Would you recommend a career in gas to others?

Definitely. If you're hands on and if you like interacting with people, you can make a very good living. Not just nine to five - but something you can really enjoy, with lots of job prospects.
