Barrett Bell first opened its doors in 2006.

Our mission? To equip people with the skills, experience, qualifications - and importantly confidence - to start or further their career in the gas industry.

And with a 94% achievement rate, we’re getting more people into gas careers than any other training facility.

We don’t like to boast but it’s something we are rather proud of - and it’s all down to the hard work and enthusiasm of our thriving community of expert teachers and happy students.

What we offer

We specialise in delivering a full and varied range of Gas Installation and Maintenance courses which meet the industry requirements for Gas Safe Registration.

As an established City & Guilds Centre we offer the Level 3 Diploma in Gas Engineering - Pathway D for new entrants in to the industry.

As an accredited Blueflame Centre we also operate the Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS) for individual gas fitting operatives offering all of the elements necessary to work on domestic gas installations.

Training and assessment packages

Whether you’re new to the gas industry, experienced in the gas industry but with no recognised qualifications, or if you simply wish to renew or extend your scope - we can help.

We also operate as a Functional Skills Centre. This means we can help you strengthen your Maths/Numeracy and English/Literacy skills, for instance: reading, writing, speaking, listening and communication - all skills that will greatly enhance your career in gas.

Getting you into work

As a preferred provider for Further Education (FE) colleges we work closely with them to provide good quality training programmes that lead to employment.

We also work closely with Job Centre Plus to provide high quality industry-led qualifications for job seekers.

Because we’re dedicated to getting you into work, we’re tireless when it comes to forging links with the community.

Our strong relationships with industry mean nobody else is better placed to support you with seeking workplace opportunities and the best job opportunities. We’ll help you nail the interview, too.

Awards and recognition

As well as rated ‘good’ by Ofsted, Barrett-Bell has been awarded the ‘Matrix Standard’ for providing good quality information, advice and guidance to all learners from initial contact through to employment.

Location

We currently operate two training centres.

Both have excellent transport links and can be reached easily using public transport.

We’ve both worked as gas engineers.

We loved the buzz of getting out and about, meeting people and mixing with the public. It was so much better than being stuck in an office! (or a lab—Natalie was previously a Products Researcher for a leading pharmaceutical company).

Later, as we found ourselves training other engineers, we became ever more aware of the skills shortage. Quite simply, demand for gas engineers was outstripping supply.

Because we have always had a passion for helping people get into work, it was a logical progression to set up our own training centre.

We loved what we did and we knew others would too, especially when they saw the opportunities the gas industry offers.

Today, we’re ridiculously proud of our brilliant learners and their 94% achievement rate.

Many of them return to our centres to share their stories with new students, eager to inspire and encourage the next generation of gas engineers.

In fact, often our ex-students are a great source of work placements and job opportunities. It’s a virtuous circle that really reflects the friendly, nurturing environment students tell us they love.

1. We are a leading and innovative gas training organisation specialising in JUST the domestic gas qualifications. Gas is our business!

2. Our success is our learners' success. Since our business started in 2006 we have a proven track record of success year on year. Our achievement rate has never fallen below 90%.

3. We measure ourselves in providing a vocational qualification that leads to work. As such we incorporate job seeking and employability skills into our course programs to give our learners the best opportunity.

4. Approximately 84% of our Learners go on to employment or become self-employed!

5. We are one of only a few training organisations in the UK who offer the Level 3 Gas Diploma for new entrants to the gas industry.

6. Due to our strong links with Industry we are able to support our learners in seeking work placement opportunities.

7. In 2012 we achieved the Matrix Standard Award for providing good information, advice and guidance to all learners from initial contact through to employment. Our latest Ofsted Inspection took place in May 2023 and we were rated as a ‘Good Provider’ for the second time running.

8. We provide dedicated student support whenever needed.

9. We can access government funding for the level 3 Gas Diploma to cover the cost of your course if you are eligible.

10. We offer ACS discount packages to our learners and offer employer incentive schemes for companies that work with us.
